What Kids Think Are Very Scary
Kids are afraid of many things. This is normal since most kids aren't aware of what most things are. When someone is unfamiliar with something they tend to be afraid of it. The world can be a scary place for a young child. For children, every day is filled with new places, new images and a perpetual confrontation with the unknown. Some children are obviously affected more by fear than others, and there is not one established cause for their fears or a determining factor for what they will be scared of. Parents can easily increase their children's fears without being aware of it.
There are many common fears that a lot of children share. One of the most common things that kids are afraid of is spiders. Spiders and insects in general are very easy for children to be scared of. Spiders, though small in size, are still look intimidating to a small child; eight legs and eight eyes are quite the sight. Most kids are scared of these creatures because parents have often told their kids that spiders bite and that they should stay away from them. Children begin to look at spiders as a symbol for pain, which is an easy way to cause fear. Another obvious thing kids are afraid of is being in the dark. Kids fear the dark because they might believe there are monsters under their bed or someone might break in the house. Even if a child isn't thinking about monsters or supernatural creatures, the dark can still be scary. The simple fact that they cannot see, opens up a lot of fear for a child. When confronting the night, it also may be the first time that a child feels completely alone and without the protection of their parents. As kids get older they learn to confront this fear. Kids are also afraid of scary movies because they tend to give them nightmares. Scary characters from films often stay in a child's mind or subconscious, waiting to resurface when they go to sleep. The easiest way to deal with this fear is by not letting a child watch a scary movie that they can't handle.
Of course kids are different, and something that may scare one kid may even make another kid laugh! If you have or know a child that scares easily, that is no fault of their own and it is nothing to be worried about. Almost all kids grow out of their fears and as a parent or older figure in their life; it is your job to help them conquer their fears.
