1. The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist was adapted from a novel of the same title, by William Peter Blatty. The movie is about a case of an exorcism. A girl named Regan deals with demon possession and her mother fights to get her daughter back. Eventually, Regan's mother brings two priests to the house to practice exorcism. This movie became the most profitable horror movie of all time and won many awards.

2. The Haunting (1963)
The Haunting was adapted from a novel of the same title, by Shirley Jackson. It is a British psychological horror film about a team of paranormal investigators. The team visits a house for several nights for an investigation and strange things start to happen to the team members.

3. Jacob's Ladder (1990)
The movie was adapted from a screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin. It is a psychological thriller about a U.S. soldier named Jacob during the Vietnam War. He was very much affected by the war experience which causes him hallucinations, which later become increasingly bizarre.

4. Poltergeist (1982)
Poltergeist is one of Steven Spielberg's horror films about a family living in an ordinary American suburb. One day, poltergeist activity occurs in the family's home and their kid Carol Anne disappears. A team of parapsychologists comes to investigate and they discover the house was built on top of a cemetery. The movie has been ranked on #84 on American Film Institute's 100 Years... 100 Thrills.

5. The Sixth Sense (1999)
The Sixth Sense is an American psychological thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Nine-year-old Cole Sear is a boy who always seems frightened and disturbed. His mom takes him to a child psychiatrist and Cole tells his psychiatrist that he sees dead people. The film got famous for its twisted ending and was nominated for six Academy Awards.
